Illinois plans to MURDER children
On July 1st the state budget takes effect.

This eliminates ALL - 100% of all the funding for many social service programs here, plunging Illinois to dead last in social service spending behind all the other states and DC.

And here in Elgin it closes "Little Angels" which houses and cares for fragile multiply disabled children.

They will be sent home.

With no funding at all for their families to care for them or get a nurse. And many of these children NEED 24/7 skilled nursing care and a lot of doctor visits to stay alive.

They. Will. Die.

And they will also without a doubt have ER visits and hospitalizations before that happens that amount to far more that the State will be paying than if funding were continued.

100% of all House republicans voted for this as well as 12 DINOs. One of which is my representative.

And I am so hideously angry you cannot imagine.

Dow loses 1844 since Republican coup
Dow when Bush started was 10300.

Adjusted for the 17.4% inflation since the end of 2001 this is 12444.

Today, as we reap the fruits of Bush's "sound fundamentals" and the great strength of our banking industry, it stands (or teeters) at 10600.

So in base-year dollars it has lost 1844 points.

Good Job Repubs!!!! The country's economy is SAFE in your hands.

What was the free-fall time for the top part of the WTC?
Assuming the top bit of WTC-1 weighed one-fifth of the total weight of the tower, or 100,000,000 pounds, and that the cross-sectional area in the direction of travel was 43264 sq ft (208 squared), that the drag coefficient was 0.7, and that the height of fall was 1,368 feet, we come up with a terminal velocity of 158 ft/second.

(Calculator is here; http://exploration.grc.nasa.gov/education/rocket/termvr.html )

Calculating the free-fall time with that terminal velocity we get a free fall time of 11 seconds.

The standard estimate of the time of the tower to fall is 15 seconds. I haven't (yet) measured it myself, but 15 seconds is NOWHERE near 11 seconds. Not even CLOSE to 11 seconds. In fact it is 36% more.

So, I've just shot down the free fall argument.

And if you are gonna argue against it, you'd better find fault with that calculation. Anything else is the desperate attempt of a true believer resorting to the Gospel According To Jones.

Compressed Air and the WTC collapse
Charles' Law states that as a gas is compressed, it's temperature rises.

Simply stated the law is P1/P2 = T1/T2 where pressure is in any useful unit and temperature is in degrees Kelvin.

As the top of the towers fell into the lower sections, and especially as floors pancaked within the tube formed by the lower floors, the air within was compressed just as if you were pushing on a piston into a closed volume.

If the temperature of air in the lower floors was 70 degrees Fahrenheit and if the (inefficient) piston achieved a 50% volume reduction;

P1 = 1
P2 = 2
T1 = 294 K

Solving for T2 yields 588 K which is 598 degrees Fahrenheit!

What effect would this have had upon the people and contents? Quite simply anything that could combust would have burst into flames, humans would have had their lungs seared and their clothes burned or melted upon their bodies. All paper would have been incinerated (it burns at the famous 451 F) and almost no material would have been unchanged.

You can clearly see the power of compressed air as the towers fall in the several windows that get blown out of the building along with whatever contents were behind them.

What a horrible experience this must have been.

Here is what I want our Democratic Senators and Representatives do about Bush's veto;

What we need to convince them to do is to simply not pass any other Iraq funding.

This will force an EMERGENCY MILITARY WITHDRAWL under conditions of no additional funding.

Troops would have to destroy all non-mobile weapons with demolition charges and would use explosives to destroy every facility of military use we now control. Then columns of armed troops, covered by all the working armor that is left (very little) and army air cover march down the road to Kuwait where the Navy will take them onto the aircraft carriers and other similar assets and take them home. Heavy weapons would be left in Kuwait under the care of a small garrison. (Which we would then modestly fund.)

Based on similar retreats in force in military history, I believe we could begin May 15th, and be out of Iraq by June 1st.

It is what we MUST DO in my opinion.

Our Strategy for The Next Two Years
OK, Warriors; The White Rose Think Tank (me!) has come up with a winning strategy for the next two years; Tie Bush to every GOP politician like the Albatross in "The Rhyme of The Ancient Mariner".

"Minority Whip Trent Lott" becomes "Bush Crony, Minority Whip Trent Lott"

"GOP Presidential Candidate Rudolph Guliani" becomes "Bush Advisor, GOP Presidential Candidate Rudolph Guliani"

Tag phrases to use;

Bush Crony...
Bush Friend...
Bush Advisor...
Bush Ally...
Bush Operative...
Bush Mouthpiece...
Bush Supporter...

Use them every time you refer to ANY GOP POLITICIAN. Never fail to use these tags and we will destroy the GOP in '08 without any doubt in my mind. And do not let the facts get in the way of using these tags. Even if a GOP politician has distanced himself from Bush, he didn't leave the Party for the Libertarians, did he? The only one I would be inclined to cut any slack might be Ron Paul of Texas, who is a Libertarian in GOPer's clothing. Nah, on second though tag Ron too, unless he relabels himself Libertarian.

Reporter Helen Thomas honored for asking the tough questions

ST. PAUL, MN – (March 30, 2006) – In a rare show of public admiration for a member of the national news media, Helen Thomas today was showered with 100 dozen roses from complete strangers.

Thomas, the veteran journalist who has covered every president since John F. Kennedy, has never wavered from holding those in power accountable. The suggestion to acknowledge Thomas was made on the political discussion forum democraticunderground.com following a March 21 White House press conference when Thomas asked President Bush about the real reasons for going to war against Iraq. The idea received wide support among members of the online forum. More than $2,000 was quickly donated by individuals in 31 states and four countries (Australia, Canada, Germany, and Great Britain).

"Helen Thomas has been asking the questions that I want answered,” said Clarity Sanderson, a website designer and campaign software developer in Utah who organized the flower drive. “Unfortunately, many journalists aren't following her example. Many of us who frequent Democratic Underground felt compelled to make sure Ms. Thomas knows how grateful we are to her for asking these questions and bringing to light topics that don't usually get the attention they deserve. Who else has asked the president about the neo-conservatives’ 10 year old blueprint for U.S. global domination called Project for the New American Century?"

“Helen is a true Patriot, “according to DU member ‘PearliePoo2.’ “Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to thank Helen for persisting in pursuing the truth. How difficult that must have been, particularly as she was moved to the back of the room, ignored, then excoriated in an attempt to break her spirit and get her to stop asking the tough questions. When she's in the room questioning, I always feel she carries the people's voice, ” wrote a forum member who goes by the name ‘suffragette.’

Thomas was re-assigned to a back row seat during presidential press conferences in 2003, although she still sits in the front row during press briefings. The March 21 exchange marked the first time in three years that President Bush had called upon Thomas.

Thomas was a White House correspondent for United Press International for 57 years and now works as a syndicated columnist for Hearst Newspapers. Citizens from across the country regularly tune in to the daily White House briefings to watch and discuss online how the news media questions the Bush Administration on newsworthy topics. Thousands on democraticunderground.com and similar sites have been cheering Thomas from the sidelines for her determination in asking the president and his spokespeople the questions that are on the minds of Americans but which rarely get asked.

Last year, Internet activists similarly flooded Senator Barbara Boxer’s (D-CA) office with roses in a show of appreciation following her historic, formal objection to the 2004 Presidential Electors from the State of Ohio on January 6, 2005.

The flowers for Thomas were purchased from Organic Bouquet in support of its organic production practices that protect the environment and improve farm worker safety.

Fidel Castro Announces Attack on Miami
Friday, August 26, 2005: Today, Fidel Castro announced that, since there are so many Cubans in Miami, he is going to send gunships and troops under the cover of his air force to annex. the city of Miami and make the city a Province of Cuba on Monday, August 29. President Bush, on vacation in Crawford, Texas, had no comment. But Scott McClellan, the President's Press Secretary, said that the President was confident that the local contingency plans for police, fire and the 200 local Florida National Guardsmen not in Iraq are sufficient to repel the invaders. The Mayor of Miami issues an evacuation order, but human nature being what it is, many people do not leave out of fear of leaving their homes unprotected, or their pets behind, or just don't believe Castro would attack. Many others don't have cars or can't afford transportation, or find that the planes and buses are already filled to capacity.

Saturday, August 27, 2005: Reconnaissance satellites report an armada of Cuban warships assembling in Cuban harbors. Attempts to reach President Bush failed; he was said to be chopping wood somewhere on his ranch. Vice President Cheney was rumored to be vacationing in Wyoming. When asked whether Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice was attempting diplomatic solutions, Mr.McClellan responded that Ms. Rice was taking a well-earned vacation in New York and needed to go shopping at Ferragamo's for shoes.

Sunday, August 28, 2005: Fidel Castro demands that Miami surrender
peacefully or he will unleash "the dogs of war the next day." His armada is observed sailing towards Miami. The Miami Department calls up every officer, the National Guard Armory is staffed, police boats are positioned in the harbor. President Bush was unavailable for comment; a staffer said he was resting on Sunday.

Monday, August 29, 2005: Under cover of the Cuban Air Force, Cuban commandos storm the waterfront of Miami and quickly overwhelm the Miami Police and local National Guard troops, and proceed to fan out through the city. President Bush announces through his Press Secretary that Mr. Chertoff, head of homeland security was looking into the possibility of calling up troops and air support from outside of Miami. Condoleeza Rice was seen returning four pairs of shoes that did not fit properly, and replacing them with others.

Tuesday, August 30, 2005: Castro announces that his forces will kill 1000 civilians a day until Miami is ceded to Cuba. His troops proceed to massacre 1000 people that day. President Bush orders Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld to help Chertoff organize a response to the assault, and leaves his ranch to attend a fundraiser
in Utah.

Wednesday, August 31, 2005: Cuban forces systematically destroy power stations and kill 1000 more civilians. President Bush reluctantly cuts short his vacation and flies back to Washington.
All attempts to reach Mr. Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Ms. Rice fail.

Thursday, September 1, 2005: Having destroyed most of Miami, Cuban forces suddenly pull back to their ships and depart. Castro announces that with the destruction of Miami, he is satisfied with the mission, but could not afford to be occupiers.

Friday, September 2, 2005: President Bush announces through a spokesperson that Federal troops and National Guard personnel are on the way to Miami. The President made it clear that it was the responsibility of the local officials in Miami to have been better prepared for the attack they knew was coming. The President said that, with Miami so close to Cuba, it was inevitable that an attack would come someday, and the locals should stop complaining that they were overwhelmed by a vastly superior force.

Saturday, September 3, 2005: Castro meets with his advisors who urge him to consider taking over the United States while Bush is still president.

Drunkard Bush**'s Biggest Failure - Bin Laden at large after 1461 days.
Personally, as fucked up as the Hurricane efforts are, I think that I have to assign the biggest failure of Drunkard Bush**'s biggest failure to be that he has squandered every opportunity to bring to justice the one man who ordered the attacks on 9/22/2001 - Osama Bin Laden.

At this point, it is far more likely that Osama Bin Laden will die of old age than that Drunkard Bush** will bring him to justice.

And the reason? A total failure of Bush to appoint good people, to properly give orders, to properly delegate responsibility, and a depraved indifference to the cause of bringing this man to justice.

We have heard since 1999 that Bush was a good delegator. That he would surround himself with the best people. That whatever his own deficiencies of knowledge, his people skills would pull him through. And that was all a lie. Whether he lied to himself too, I cannot say, but he has FUCKED UP the one most important job in "The War On Terror", and fixing this screwed up job is by now totally beyond his power.

All things old are new again; A call for new steam locomotive development.

OK, I'll confess; I've been a steam locomotive fan since I was a small child. Odd, I know, to be so interested in a technology that had all but disappeared by the year I was born, but they have always had a peculiar appeal to me.

Given my bias, I will try very hard to be objective in what I am about to say;

America needs to develop a totally modern steam locomotive if we are to deal with peak oil and still have a modern transportation network.

The recent rise in the price of oil, and especially jet fuel and diesel fuel, and the acute shortages caused by hurricane Katrina have shown just how vulnerable our transportation network is to problems with the supply of this single resource. Literally everthing that you buy comes to your door only through transportation systems based on diesel fuel or jet fuel. Trains require diesel. Trucks require diesel. Ships require diesel (very few burn bunker oil any more). And though there are some short haul trucks that burn gasoline, the same shortages apply to them as well.

There are fuels available in the USA in great quantity that cannot be burned in an internal combustion engine; Coal, Peat, Scrapwood, Recycled wood fiber, Dessicated sewage, Farm waste, etc. These could be burned in domestic thermal power plants, and all of them excepting peat are so used, but electric power from a fixed site thermal power plant does not lend itself to vehicle power other than short-haul delivery and personal transport vehicles (which we need!) True. fixed site power could be used in rail transport with overhead catenary wires or with third-rails, but almost none of the nations track miles are so-equipped and the cost of an electrification effort on existing rights-of-way is staggering. Often it is close to the cost of simply building a new right-of-way.

The solution, as I see it, is to develop a thoroughly modern steam locomotive using all of the technical innovations that have appeared since steam locomotives were last built in this country; Welded boilers, modern alloys, amazingly reliable and frictionless bearings, efficient ejectors, superheaters, microprocessors, multiple unit controls, etc.

A steam locomotive built using computer simulation and CAD systems, with an additional fifty years of technology to draw upon, would not only rival diesel locomotives in efficiency, but would also be able to be designed to burn almost anything that will burn as fuel.

The additional infrastructure a steam locomotive requires; Fueling towers, Water standpipes, and Ash pits only need to be built at intervals along the right-of-way, and do not require the re-engineering of tens of thousands of miles of trackage as would electrification. To my mind this is a compelling economic argument.

If you want to read some more about modern steam locomotive efforts, especially the ACE locomotive which was proposed when last we thought about out energy future in the early 1980s, please visit The Ultimate Steam Page

My take on SUVs and McMansions.
As objectionable as these things are, we don't need to do a single thing about them!

They are self-limiting and self-punishing bits of conspicuous consumption!

When gasoline prices rise to the $4 a gallon range next summer, it will cost $112 to fill up the tank on a Lincoln Navigator, and it will cot .39 cents a mile in just gasoline (not to mention the other costs, depreciation, wear & tear, etc.) Already these things have a much lower resale value, and people who own them are selling them (when they can find a buyer) and getting smaller vehicles.

McMansions, often bought with interest-only loans, will be hit hardest by the housing bubble; Not only will they become worth less than the loans on them, but natural gas and electricity costs will make them hellishly uneconomical to heat and cool. Those I have visited are often owned by people so close to the wire, financially, that there is only one well-furnished room in the house, at the entrance, to make an impression and the rest of the house is nearly empty! And they are not structured such that zone heating and cooling are practical.

So, we don't need to do squat about these things... In fact, encourage your Republican friends to buy McMansions and the biggest SUV they can manage! They will thank you for it later.

How can a Neo-con be a Christian?
As I understand the teachings of Jesus Christ, it does not seem to me as though a Neo-con could conceivably be a real Christian;

Luke 10:25-37 - The Parable of The Good Samaritan - Says that we need to help those in trouble, and that ALL men are your neighbors. It does not say that only straight people are your neighbors. It does not say that only Christian people are your neighbors. It does not say that only Republican people are your neighbors. For an example of Neo-con hypocrisy on this topic one need only look at the recent and continuing attacks on Andy Stephenson; We, many of us non-Christians rose up to help this sick man and the Neo-cons did their best to prevent us from helping him. Their reasons; First, a deep and abiding homophobia, which shows up in both their attacks on Andy and on me. Second, that we are not Republicans. To a Neo-con, death is too good for a "fag" or for anybody who opposes their Fearless Leader.

Matthew 18:21-19:1 - The Parable of The Unmerciful Servant - Says that we need to forgive our debtors, and that we shouldn't be hypocrites about it. For an example of Neo-con hypocrisy on this topic, we need only look at the bankruptcy bill, and the Neo-con vendettas against those who offended them long ago, like Jane Fonda.

Matthew 6:24-34 (and Luke 12:24-27) - The Parable of The Birds of Heaven and The Lilies of the Field - You cannot serve God and also seek after material wealth. For an example you need only look at "The Prayer of Jabez", which perverts the Bible into a black magickal tool of greed. Or the burying of a St. Joseph statue in the back yard to get a house to sell. Both are examples of perverting the words of Christianity as a tool to serve Mammon.

Matthew 22:37-39 - "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself." For an example of Neo-con hypocrisy on this one, you only need look to the pronouncements of PNAC and the aggressive war fought with Iraq, abandoning all diplomacy. All men are neighbors, as we established above. And are not Iraqis men? More on this topic; John 14:27 - Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you. My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." Matthew 5:8-9 - "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God."

I could cite MANY more verses of scripture in Christ's own words.

I ask you, and I ask you neo-cons who hang on my every word; How can you call yourself a Christian without the words lodging in your throats and choking you to death?
